Elena Sokratous is a cypriot Berlin-based stage director for more than 25 performances since 2009. She is the founder of the theatrical groups ek-drasis (Limassol, 2009) and ithAKT (Berlin, 2012) and co-founder of the theatrical groups “Koulou|Makka” (Limassol, 2022) and “Punkt*” (Berlin-Athens, 2022). Her performances have been staged mainly in Germany, Cyprus and Greece and have travelled to European festivals. She has collaborated among others with the National Theatre of Northern Greece and Theater Organisation Cyprus.
Her work focuses on political theatre, issues related to women’s self-determination, minorities, socially vulnerable populations, diverse physicalities and practices of accessibility and inclusion in the performing arts. In recent years she is interested in bringing caringly on stage bodies and stories that we don’t normally see on stage.
At the same time she works as a theatre educator. Among other things, she has been working with Assitej Germany since 2015, designing and implementing theatre education programmes for children and teenagers.
